Jason Kramer, Founder and Creative Director of Gabriel Design, has worked for 25 years as a designer, fabricator, painter, and educator. An award-winning graduate of Philadelphia’s University of the Arts, Jason holds a B.Sc. in Design and Theater.
Gabriel Design’s creations have been seen on the stages of more than 500 theaters and entertainment venues around the world. With a specific focus on creature puppet design and fabrication, Jason and his team have been commissioned by institutions such as the Academy of Natural Sciences, the Philadelphia and Minnesota Zoos, Visa, and others. Jason also served in the Peace Corps and created a puppetbased travelling turtle conservation program that toured the Pacific Islands.
Jason’s resume includes work on Broadway’s Aida, Scarlet Pimpernel, and Taller Than a Dwarf, and Cirque Du Soleil’s Dralion, as well as numerous regional professional theaters. Gabriel Design’s creations have been used by Broadway’s leading performers. In addition, over the past ten years, Gabriel Design has supported hundreds of schools, universities and smaller theaters with professional props and design packages.
Jason founded Gabriel Design Theatricals to support theaters, educational institutions, and entertainment companies around the world by providing the highest quality unique creatures and puppets.

Recently seen at the Smithsonian Institution in D.C., the Lion King masks and puppets were reimagined, and include Timon, Simba, Mufasa, Nala and Scar
HMS BELFAST CAT & MOUSE
Commissioned for London's HMS Belfast WWII ship museum, a realistic cat and mouse were created for display in the Potato Storage room. Each was made to be durable and fire-retardent.
Series of puppet characters developed for productions of Little Mermaid, the Musical, including Sebastian, Scuttle, Flounder, Flotsam and Jetsam.
SCUBA CREATURE SUIT
Commissioned by a Chinese entertainment company for aquarium shows, the suit is worn by a scuba-diving performer, allowing for the diver to perform untethered.
Designed for theme parks, medieval festivals, and museums, Creature Companions are puppets brought to life completely hidden from the audience.
From Frozen, the Musical, Olaf was commissioned for a Texas theatrical company. Lightweight and easy to use, Olaf has articulated arms and mouth, a removable nose, and eye blink.
Developed for Kreature Workshop, a division of Gabriel Design Theatricals, each Dragon Hatchling can be puppeteered, and is available in multiple variations.
JAMES & THE GIANT PEACH
The main characters of the beloved story were commissioned by a prominent Washington theater, and included Grasshopper, Centipide, Spider, Ladybug and Worm.
Used in productions from regional to Broadway, Milky White is a crowd-favorite. She has an expression-filled face, a tilting head with mouth, and udders.
